A few weeks ago I tried an Iced Matcha Latte from Starbucks while Symphony and I were on one of our mommy/daughter outings thinking I would hate it.
I’ve tried an iced matcha latte once before and it was gross. But I’ve been eating clean and healthy lately, exploring newer tastes and ingredients..so I was just checking to see if my taste buds have changed.
And they have!! SO....I want to share my recipe with you...I’ve tried iced matcha lattes at several different coffee shops...and while all were tasty, none have even come close to the one I created for myself! Disclaimer: I looked up a recipe online and tweaked it to my liking. The specific one I found was full of sugars and dairy...and I’m not into that these days, plus I love the subtle flavor of vanilla...so here it is!
Here are the ingredients you will need and the brands I prefer...all of them can be found at Kroger, except for the actual Matcha and Hand Mixer and for those I head to Amazon. Tiesta Tea was my first brand to try out (from Costco), but it’s a little pricey and I found that Amazon has good matcha as well and lower prices.
Matcha Powder from Costco
Pure Vanilla (found at any local grocery store)
Organic Almond Milk (Walmart, Kroger, Costco...any brand will do, but this is my fav!)
Blue Agave (I have found Kroger brand to be the BEST!)
Hand Mixer or Blender
And here’s the recipe!! I’ve centered it and isolated it so you can easily screen shot!
Nia’s Iced Matcha Latte:
• 1 teaspoon of matcha powder
• 1/4 cup of hot water
• 2 drops of pure vanilla
• blue agave syrup to your liking
(i add 2 abundant squirts)
• 1 cup of organic almond milk
• A large glass of ice
In a large cup add your hot water
and teaspoon of matcha. Let it steep
(or bloom--a fun new tea word I recently
learned!) After 2 minutes of steeping,
add the vanilla and blue agave. Blend
together with your hand mixer to be sure
there are no clumps and the tea is
smooth. It will be a dark green color at
this point. Add the almond milk and
mix with your hand blender enthusiastically
for about 30 seconds to a minute. Pour your
latte over a large glass of ice and ENJOY!!
Seriously, this iced matcha latte has replaced all coffee for me and is the most refreshing summer drink I’ve ever had! It has become my new go to drink to serve fresh at ALL parties and get togethers. AND one of my besties asked me for some on her BIRTHDAY!
Whether you’re a matcha lover or not, (I’ve turned ALL my skeptic friends into matcha lovers!!) this is going to be a good find for you and your taste buds!
Love you guys!!
