Not Enough Time In The Day

June 24, 2018

Today I woke up and immediately made pancakes for my 3 kiddos...they were elated!

After that I had a cup of coffee and then went to the gym with all 3 kiddos in tow. Which means I had to get them all dressed, with my girls matching of course.

After that I stopped for a drink and went to visit a friend for about half an hour.

Lunchtime was nothing special...the usual...homemade lunch-ables by mom: turkey lunch meat, cheese cubes, sliced strawberries, and goldfish. This is my kids’ faaaavorite meal by me because it’s never the exact same thing, yet always an array of their faves.

During their nap I worked and squeezed in a 30 minute nap.

After nap I had a second cup of coffee and dropped the kids off at my moms for some quality time and went to wash my car and run an errand.

By this time it’s getting close to dinner time so I picked up some fast food and then headed to the same friend’s house that I mentioned earlier to drop off something.

We were home just in time for jammies, prayers, stories, and songs.

By now its like 9 pm and I’m still in the same clothes I wore to the gym at 8:30 am so I have to take a shower of course (which also means a rigorous 20 minute hair routine because i have such terrible split ends)

This time of night I usually get some work done and catch up on social media while enjoying a couple snacks without little hands reaching for everything. (shoutout to Ham’s Peach Orchard for supplying tonight’s snacks!)

What’s missing from my day? When I recount it back it sounds SO full...full of important things, happy things, productive things...yet SO completely empty and void of THE most important thing.

Q U I E T  |  T I M E

Did I mention that I raised my voice to my children at least 3 times today? Like, rrrreeaaallly raised my voice. The kind where you look down at your phone afterward to be sure you didn’t accidentally record yourself and send it to someone.

I can’t help but end my day wondering if quiet time had come FIRST THING, maybe patience and grace would have overflown in moments of frustration and disobedience rather than yelling? Yelling has become suuuuch a taboo subject...like we keep it this BIG secret until maybe we’ve mastered it and then we brag/speak about how we overcame that struggle.

(do we ever really overcome that? asking for a friend.....................)

Anyway, the moral of this story...day...life... is that we let our days consist of busy moments and social media posts. We go through the motions...some of them are really good motions and efforts...but they’re worthless without filling our soul with knowledge and reminders of love from the Father.

I’m interested in doing a little study with you.

If you’re reading this right now, consider the last 24 hours with your family/roommates/friends etc. Send me an email or feel free to be vulnerable and comment below with a 5-10 word description of your day and your attitude.

Tomorrow--make time when you wake up no matter how early or late...10 minutes!! Then email/comment again and lets look at the difference it can make in our day. Our days make up our lives and the lives of those around us.

Can’t wait to hear from you all! I’ll be doing a follow up to this blog after a few days of consistent quiet time each morning.

with love,
